COACH

Coaching within the SFYS leagues is an amazing way to support the game of Soccer.

For those willing to volunteer, it helps to significantly reduce the cost for participating families, though in current times it does require a not insignificant number of risk management hurdles to deal with - but it also gives you an amazing opportunity to connect with and develop our future generation of soccer players! (And nearly every volunteer coach who's made the effort will tell you it's worth it.) In advance of Fall and Spring seasons, SFYS opens an online Intent to Play form each team completes in order to be eligible for registration and to be on the mailing list for seasonal deadlines and scoop on team formation.

Any adult can coach - either as a volunteer or paid professional, but there are local, state, federal and US Soccer Federation requirements that must be completed by EVERY COACH first to keep everyone safe.

Reminder: NO ONE may coach on Game Day without having completed all coaching requirements and being cleared as a Coach on the Game Day Photo Roster.

There are FIVE (5) licensing and risk management requirements that must be completed by any rostered adult within SFYS (or any youth sport league / organization / club):

Federal, CA State, US Soccer Federation and SAY Soccer risk management requirements

  1. RSI background check
  2. SafeSport - linked in the US Soccer Digital Learning Center
